► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Ruputer Pro men’s digital computer smartwatch, a groundbreaking Japan Domestic Market (JDM) release from the late 1990s and widely recognized as the world’s first smartwatch. Long before the Apple Watch, Wear OS devices, and the modern smartwatch era, Seiko introduced the Ruputer as a programmable wrist-worn computer, making it an important and highly collectible piece of both horological and technological history. The watch is in full working condition, and all features and functions of the watch are working properly. The display is clear, the controls respond properly, and the various menus and functions operate as intended. All parts of the watch are original, including the original Seiko Ruputer bracelet. Released in 1998, the Ruputer was remarkably advanced for its time. It features a 16-bit 3.6 MHz processor, 2 MB of non-volatile storage memory, 128 KB of RAM, and a 102×64-pixel monochrome LCD display. Other features include an 8-direction joystick, six function buttons, a serial interface, and an infrared (IR) port for communicating with other compatible devices. The Ruputer was also designed as a genuinely programmable wearable computer. Seiko provided a software development kit that allowed programmers to create additional software for the device using the C programming language, an extraordinary capability for a wrist-worn device released in the 1990s. The main body measures approximately 2 inches wide, 1 1/8 inches tall, and 5/8 inch thick. It is powered by two CR2025 lithium button-cell batteries, which were rated to provide approximately 30 hours of use. Under normal operation, the Ruputer enters standby mode when left idle to help conserve battery power. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. Please review all photos carefully, as they are the best representation of the watch’s cosmetic condition.
