► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer 6139-8002 men’s automatic chronograph watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in the 1970s. The 6139 series is one of the most historically significant chronograph movements ever produced and remains highly collectible among enthusiasts as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs. This example features the distinctive Speedtimer design and original JDM day wheel. The watch is being sold for parts or repair. One of the hands from the lower chronograph subdial has fallen off and is loose inside the case. A photograph of the loose hand is included in the listing. Additionally, the lower chronograph reset pusher is stuck in the case and must be manually pulled back out. Due to this issue, the chronograph cannot be properly stopped or reset once started. Beyond these issues, the watch appears to be running and holding accurate time. However, for proper operation and continued reliable timekeeping, the watch will require service or overhaul. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket stainless steel bracelet. The watch has signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
