Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer 6139-7020 men’s automatic chronograph sports watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in the 1970s. The 6139 series is one of the most historically significant chronograph movements ever produced and remains highly collectible among enthusiasts as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs. This example features the desirable original Seiko 5 Sports bracelet, rotating inner bezel, and distinctive Speedtimer styling.
The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time over a 24 hour period. The inner bezel rotates properly as it should. The chronograph is fully functional and the chronograph hands reset to their proper positions. It should be noted that on occasion the chronograph may require more than one press of the reset button for the hands to return to their correct positions.
As with any nearly 60 year old chronograph, the buyer should understand the vintage nature of the watch. These movements contain delicate components that can become damaged, worn, or misaligned through age, excessive use, misuse, or lack of servicing. The watch has an unknown service history and would likely benefit from a service to ensure optimal long-term operation. While the chronograph and timekeeping functions were observed working properly, no guarantees are made regarding future performance.
All parts of the watch are original, including the original Seiko 5 Sports stainless steel bracelet.
The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition.

► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY
Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
