► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is an extremely rare vintage Orient Touchtron G680109A-40 men’s LED digital sports watch from the 1970s, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM). The Touchtron is one of Orient’s most unusual, historically significant, and sought-after early digital watches, representing a fascinating period of innovation during the early development of electronic wristwatches.
What makes the Touchtron particularly remarkable is its touch-activated LED display. Rather than relying solely on a conventional button to illuminate the time display, the watch was designed so that touching specific areas of the case activates the LED screen. This innovative technology made the Touchtron one of the earliest examples of a touch-activated wristwatch and gives the model an important place in the history of digital watch development.
The watch is in full working condition, with one quirk regarding the touch-activation system. The touch activation of the LED display currently works only when touching the front of the case near the crystal, approximately between the 1 and 3 o’clock positions. Beyond this quirk, the watch is in full working condition, and all features and functions are operating properly.
Please note that it is incredibly challenging, if not nearly impossible, to accurately photograph the illuminated LED display on this watch. Vintage LED displays are notorious for not reproducing properly in photographs due to the way cameras capture their light. The display appears significantly brighter, clearer, and more vibrant in person than it does in the photos. The photo showing the LED screen illuminated does not do the display justice and should not be considered an accurate representation of how the screen actually appears to the naked eye.
The watch is fitted with an aftermarket stainless steel bracelet. It is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its physical condition and should be reviewed carefully by interested buyers.
