► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a remarkable vintage Rolex Oyster Majestic men’s cushion case military wristwatch from the World War II era. This is a strong, honest example of Rolex’s wartime production, featuring a well-proportioned cushion case and an original dial that has aged exactly how you want to see on a piece from this period. The dial has developed a rich salmon and gold patina, giving the watch a striking and highly desirable vintage look that stands out naturally. The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time. All parts of the watch are original aside from the strap. It is fitted on an aftermarket high-end black leather strap that suits the watch well without taking away from its originality. The caseback is engraved with a soldier’s name and R.A.F., directly tying the watch to World War II service. The watch retains its original Rolex signed 17 jewel movement and features a correct Brevetée caseback, consistent with Oyster models from this era. The watch is in great physical condition for its age and shows signs of use and age consistent with a vintage piece. The photos best describe its physical condition and should be reviewed carefully. ► ARCHIVE FILE: ROLEX — BRAND HISTORY

Rolex began in London in 1905, when Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis founded Wilsdorf & Davis to case Swiss movements for the British market. Wilsdorf registered the Rolex name in 1908, choosing it because it was short, easy to pronounce in any language, and fit neatly on a dial. He then set about proving that wristwatches, still dismissed as jewelry, could be precision instruments: a Rolex earned the first chronometer certificate granted to a wristwatch in 1910, a Kew Class A certificate followed in 1914, and the firm moved to Geneva in 1919.
