► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Sportsman 17 Jewel manual wind men’s dress sports watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in the 1960s. The Sportsman line was one of Seiko’s most successful postwar mechanical watch series and remains highly collectible today for its dependable hand-wound movements, elegant styling, and historical importance in Seiko’s development. This example features a gold plated case with a clean silver dial and gold-tone applied hour markers. The watch is being sold for parts or repair. It is currently not running and will require service before it can be worn reliably. The exact issue has not been diagnosed. The watch is fitted with an expandable gold-tone bracelet. I am unsure if the bracelet is original to the watch. All other parts of the watch are original. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
