► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Crown J14071E men’s manual wind dress watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in the 1960s. The Seiko Crown series is one of the most historically important lines in Seiko’s history, serving as the foundation for many of the company’s later high-grade mechanical watches. This example features a classic gold plated case, elegant silver dial, and the respected 21-jewel manual wind movement. The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time over a 24 hour period. I am unsure if the gold-tone bracelet is original to the watch. All other parts of the watch are original. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. There is a small crack on the lower left portion of the crystal. It does not appear to be serious and does not significantly detract from the overall appearance of the watch. The photos best describe its physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
