Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko 5 Sportsmatic 6606-7990 men’s automatic dress sports watch, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) during the 1960s. This classic Sportsmatic model features a 21-jewel automatic movement and embodies the clean styling and dependable engineering that helped establish Seiko as one of Japan’s premier watchmakers. The watch is in full working condition and is running and holding accurate time over a 24-hour period. All features and functions are working properly. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket black leather strap. All other parts of the watch are original. Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
