Up for sale is a rare vintage Casio 55QS-24 men’s digital chronograph sports watch from the 1970s, produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM). This early Casio digital model represents the pioneering era of electronic watchmaking and features the brand’s classic stainless steel case design and iconic chronograph layout that defined many of Casio’s earliest digital watches. The watch is in full working condition, with all features and functions operating properly, including timekeeping, chronograph, digital display functions, and a working backlight. The watch is fitted on a genuine Casio stainless steel strap, though it is unknown if it is original to the watch. All other parts of the watch are original. Casio began not with watches but with calculation. Tadao Kashio founded Kashio Seisakujo in Tokyo in 1946, and with his three brothers developed the 14-A in 1957, the world's first compact all-electric relay calculator, incorporating the business as Casio Computer Co. that same year. The move into watchmaking came in November 1974 with the Casiotron, a digital watch whose claim to fame was an automatic calendar that knew how many days each month had, a small feat of logic that announced how an electronics firm would approach timekeeping.
