► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is an extremely rare vintage Seiko 5 Sports Speedtimer 6139-7000 men’s automatic chronograph sports watch produced for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) in 1970. Based on the serial number, this example was manufactured in April 1970 making it an early production Speedtimer from Seiko’s legendary 6139 chronograph series. The Speedtimer line is highly collectible among enthusiasts as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs and remains one of Seiko’s most iconic vintage sports watches. The main chronograph hand does not reset to the correct zero position and will require adjustment. The chronograph itself is operating properly and all chronograph functions are working as intended. The watch is also running and holding accurate time over a 24 hour period. All parts of the watch are original with the exception of the aftermarket black leather strap. The watch is in good vintage physical condition with signs of use and age. The photos best describe its overall appearance and physical condition. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
