► SELLER'S DESCRIPTION
Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko Ruputer Pro men’s digital computer smartwatch, a groundbreaking Japan Domestic Market (JDM) release from the late 1990s and widely recognized as the world’s first smartwatch. Long before the Apple Watch or modern Wear OS devices existed, Seiko introduced the Ruputer as a fully programmable, wrist-worn computer, making this an important and highly collectible piece of tech and horological history. This example is fully working, and all features and functions operate properly as intended. The watch powers on, navigates menus correctly, displays information clearly, and responds as expected. All parts of the watch are original. The Ruputer Pro was released in 1998 and features a 16-bit 3.6 MHz processor, 2 MB of non-volatile storage, 128 KB of RAM, and a 102×64 pixel monochrome LCD. It includes an 8-direction joystick, six function buttons, a serial interface, and an infrared (IR) port for device communication. Seiko also bundled the watch with a software development kit, allowing programs to be written in C, making it one of the earliest truly programmable smartwatches. The main body measures approximately 2 inches wide, 1 1/8 inches tall, and 5/8 inch thick. Power is supplied by two CR2025 lithium button cell batteries, providing roughly 30 hours of active use, with an automatic standby mode when idle to help conserve battery life. The watch is in fantastic physical condition, showing only minor signs of use and age. The photos best describe its physical condition and should be reviewed carefully. ► ARCHIVE FILE: SEIKO — BRAND HISTORY

Seiko begins with Kintaro Hattori, who opened a shop selling and repairing clocks in Tokyo's Ginza district in 1881, at the age of twenty-one. He founded the Seikosha factory in 1892 to manufacture wall clocks, built Japan's first wristwatch, the Laurel, in 1913, and put the Seiko name on a dial for the first time in 1924. By mid-century his successors ran one of the most vertically integrated watch companies on earth, making everything from hairsprings to cases under its own roof.
