Up for sale is a rare vintage Seiko B137-4020 men’s digital sports watch from the late 1970s. This Japan Domestic Market (JDM) model represents one of Seiko’s most innovative early digital designs from the pioneering era of quartz technology.
The watch is fitted on an aftermarket stainless steel strap and is in good physical condition, showing signs of use consistent with age. The display has an issue where it appears to function normally in standard time mode, but when switching to other modes such as the chronograph or alarm, some of the digits or pixels are missing.
A standout element of this model is its unique crown-based control system — pulling out the crown allows the user to digitally set the time and cycle through modes. This ingenious and highly unusual system remains one of Seiko’s most distinctive early digital innovations.
