Up for sale is a rare vintage Casio Casiotron R-15 men’s digital sports watch, produced exclusively for the Japan Domestic Market (JDM) during the 1970s. This early digital model represents Casio’s pioneering work at the dawn of electronic timekeeping, featuring a distinctive circular display layout and a clean, futuristic design that helped shape the earliest era of digital watches.
The watch is in full working condition, with all functions operating properly, including timekeeping and the day, date, and month displays. All buttons respond as intended.
This example is fitted with a genuine Casio stainless steel bracelet. While it is a correct Casio bracelet for the period, I am unsure if it was originally issued with this specific watch. The watch also comes with a vintage Japanese calendar attachment, as shown in the photos. These small add-on calendar plates were originally designed to be worn with the watch to allow quick reference to the date and are a unique and increasingly hard-to-find accessory. The calendar attachment can be easily removed if desired.
The watch shows signs of use and age, and the photos best describe its physical condition.

► ARCHIVE FILE: CASIO — BRAND HISTORY
Casio began not with watches but with calculation. Tadao Kashio founded Kashio Seisakujo in Tokyo in 1946, and with his three brothers developed the 14-A in 1957, the world's first compact all-electric relay calculator, incorporating the business as Casio Computer Co. that same year. The move into watchmaking came in November 1974 with the Casiotron, a digital watch whose claim to fame was an automatic calendar that knew how many days each month had, a small feat of logic that announced how an electronics firm would approach timekeeping.
